Vic Viper Bomber (ビックバイパーボンバー, bikku baipā bonbā)[1] is a playable character who appears in Super Bomberman R. He was added in update 1.4 on June 29, 2017.[2]

Biography

A Super-Dimensional Bomberman from the Planet Gradius.

An ace fighter in the Gradius Space Force, he spends night and day battling to ward off the invading Bacterian Army. Once he learned of Planet Bomber's peril, however, he came to offer his aid.

He specializes in synchronized attacks performed together with formations of Multiples, or "Options," which also relate to his name's origin.

In the introductory cinematic for Grand Prix mode, Vic Viper Bomber arrives on Planet Bomber alongside Simon Belmont Bomber and Jehuty Bomber, leading the charge to defend the Bomberman Brothers against Dracula Bomber's attacks. He informs the siblings of their origins and their secret power, and asks Belmont Bomber to help demonstrate by loaning White his memory cartridge.

Special Ability

Vic Viper Bomber's special ability is the Speed Up (スピードアップ, supīdo appu). By pressing the button, he will quickly fly forward in a straight line, only stopping when he collides with a bomb or obstacle. His speed is high enough to allow him to pass through twelve squares in roughly one second. If he is equipped with the Bomb Kick, he will kick a bomb if he hits it during the boost. However, he is completely vulnerable.

Trivia

  • Vic Viper is the ship controlled by the player in most games in the Gradius franchise, produced by Konami.
  • In the version 1.4 update that introduced him, Vic Viper Bomber's Speed Up had no cooldown period, and could be used repeatedly without consequences. In update 2.0, released on November 15, 2017, the cooldown period was added.[2] The original behaviour may be seen in this footage.
